It's official. The little bell in my car that alerts me that "Ext. temp is 37 degrees" went off for the first time today since last April. (I have never been sure why I get this alert or why it's for that particular temperature). But nonetheless, cold weather is upon us.
Here are some suggestions for activities to accomplish on your to-do list before the even busier -- and colder -- month of December.
~~ Check your gutters. And we don't mean the ones at the bowling alley. Gutters can get filled to the brim with fallen leaves no longer bright and pretty, but large and ready to clog up your gutter system. Make sure the gutters are clear before the snow and ice arrives and said leaves are stuck to them which is a real mess.
~~ If your family is interested in having a Christmas or holiday photo taken, now's the time to beat the rush. Call to make an appointment and then try to figure out if you will all wear white, beige or red and green finery. You will probably need extra time to convince members of the family that this will be fun, too.
~~ Decide for yourself if you will celebrate Friday, November 29, 2013 -- the day after Thanksgiving -- as Black Friday or Do Nothing Day. Odds are leaning towards the former with mega stores like Kohl's, Macy's and JC Penney's announcing they will launch their holiday shopping seasons at 8 p.m. this year on Thanksgiving Day, continuing through the weekend. Seems a shame that a lot of people will now have to work even earlier on Thanksgiving Day, a holiday reserved for families and friends to show their gratitude for life's many blessings.
~~ Plan to hang your American flag outside of your home on Veterans Day, November 11, to honor all veterans. It's a small thing to do but it will make a huge statement to veterans who will appreciate your remembrance.
