Want to be "Gone Fishing"?

I can still remember how much I had to bug my Dad to get him to take me fishing with his brother, my Uncle Hook, and their friends those long ago summers when I was young. Dad would relent one time a year and so I had to rise at 5 a.m. and get in the car, ready to go, with my pink Princess fishing reel and rod in hand.

I loved being with these wonderful men (and probably getting my own way), but like any young child, I got easily bored, thus justifying their decision not to take me too often!

Before the fishing trips, we had to pick up earthworms from the cooler in the back of the gas station where Uncle Hook worked. But I refused to put these nasty creatures on my hook, preferring instead to use the corn bait that wasn’t alive when I had to touch it.

If you have fond memories of fishing and boating and would like to share them with your children or grandchildren, the website www.takemefishing.org is a great place to start.

You can find information there on over 10,000 places to fish or boat throughout the 50 states. You can also refresh your fishing technique with the basic information provided.
